For more than 80 years, the Museum of Science and Industry has served as a place to inspire and motivate children to explore the fields of technology, science, engineering, and medicine. Over 180 million guests have visited its 400,000 square feet of exhibit space and viewed its more than 35,000 artifacts.
Notable exhibits include the U-505 submarine, a real World War II German submarine that guests can enter to learn about naval warfare during WWI and WWII and what life was like for people aboard the sub when it was operational. Colleen Moore’s Fairy Castle, another long-running exhibit, was created by the silent film star in 1949. Along with its tiny furniture and decorations, the castle features items that celebrities have donated, such as an original painting by Walt Disney. Recently restored, the castle contains more than 1,500 miniatures.
